SHORT DESCRIPTION |
The encyclopaedia of the Black Sea, the third volume of the Encyclopaedia of the Hellenic World, follows the structure and the organizational principles of the project and focuses on Hellenic history and culture on the coast of the Black Sea, from the colonies of the antiquity to the communities of modern times. In this way, it complements geographically the two volumes of the Encyclopaedia of the Hellenic World that focus on Asia Minor and Constantinople, while at the same time it expands to the wider area of the Balkans, Central and East Europe.
The fact that a lot of researchers from the area of the coast of the Black Sea collaborated in the Encyclopaedia reflects the multiformity and the wealth of the history and culture of the Black Sea coasts from the Balkans to Caucasus, where Hellenic presence always functioned as a connective link. |
